The irrepressible rhythm of ‘Jumping Bean’,
the gentle lilt of ‘Berceuse’
or ‘Siciliano’, the misty images
of ‘Clair de Lune’, ’Little
Serenade’ or ‘Dream Waltz’,
the journeys and encounters found in ‘Beachcomber’
and ‘A Quiet Stroll’, and a
‘March’ through the Trossachs
with Dr Finlay - the world of light music is indeed a magical place!
The wonderful melodies and images found in these and many other
pieces are brought to life by a brand-new ensemble dedicated to
live performances of light music of all kinds. fourtune
was born of an enthusiasm for this kind of music by the members
of the group, shared by a vast number of music lovers in the UK
and well beyond.
With a colourful four-piece line-up of woodwind and piano offering
a range of delightful melodic sounds ideally suited to this type
of music, fourtune is a group offering
highly-affordable concerts that will stay long in the memory of
those who hear them!
The repertoire for fourtune is extensive
and growing all the time. Other pieces not featured on this CD include
radio classics such as ‘Jamaican Rumba’ (Arthur Benjamin)
and ‘The Peanut Polka’ (Robert Farnon), some of the
wonderful melodies of George Gershwin, excerpts from Gilbert and
Sullivan, great tunes from musicals, shows and operettas, classic
ballads, folk melodies and shorter light classical works - the list
is virtually endless! As well as music for the full ensemble, fourtune
programmes feature solos and music for various combinations within
the group. Certain novelty pieces can also involve audience participation!
The aim of the group is to provide fine performances of a wide variety
of really great melodies - purely for pleasure!
The members of fourtune are all well-known
performers who work with the country’s leading orchestras,
and are featured regularly as soloists and ensemble players on BBC,
